2008 THOROUGHBRED SEASON OFFERS NEW RACING TIMES AT HOOSIER PARK

The 14th season of Thoroughbred racing at Hoosier Park Racing and Casino will offer a new post time schedule. The track has added some afternoon post times throughout the 63-day meet, which begins Friday, Aug. 29.

Live racing will once again be held Wednesday through Sunday. Post time Wednesday and Thursday is 6:45 p.m. Post times Friday through Sunday each week will be 12:45 p.m., offering fans the opportunity to watch live racing at Hoosier Park during the day.

“We are very excited to offer our racing fans a new post time option in 2008,” said Rick Moore, general manager of racing. “The afternoon race cards on weekends will give fans a chance to come out and watch Thoroughbred racing during the day, and then stay over for some of our other entertainment options in the evening. We plan to offer several evening acts throughout the fall, including an outdoor concert by Aretha Franklin Saturday, Sept. 20.”

Thoroughbred racing gets underway Friday, Aug. 29 with a four-day opening weekend schedule. A special Labor Day program will be offered Monday, Sept. 1 at 3 p.m. The meet will conclude Sunday, Nov. 23.

Hoosier Park’s signature events, the $400,000-added Indiana Oaks and the $500,000-added Indiana Derby, both Grade II races, will highlight the meet Friday, Oct. 3 and Saturday, Oct. 4, respectively. Post time for Oaks Day is set for 3 p.m. Post time for Derby Day is slated for 2 p.m. For more information, visit www.hoosierpark.com.

American Horse Council - Unwanted Horses

The Unwanted Horse Coalition, through the American Horse Council, is trying to identify and compile any programs that organizations in the horse industry have initiated to deal with the rescue, retirement or retraining of horses.

Some organizations, associations, and race tracks have initiated such programs.  They might range from making assistance available to owners and horses in need, to putting pictures of horses that can be adopted on the organization’s website, to formal processes for rescue or adoption.  We believe that there are such programs already in operation but they have not been broadly documented.

If your organization has such a program or provides some such service, would you please forward any descriptions and materials you have to:

The AHC would like to have any material by June 3 if possible, so we they compile it and identify what is available.
